Gender-Neutral Toilets
At the end of 2024, the Executive Board of the University decided to continue and expand a pilot project for gender-neutral toilets. By November 2025 100 gender-neutral toilets have been installed in 70 of UZH’s buildings (wherever possible two gender-neutral single stalls in the larger buildings and one gender-neutral single stall in the smaller buildings). These toilets are marked with the signage „WC“.
This project is one of the measures UZH has taken to implement the third principle of its Gender Policy Code of Conduct (nobody may suffer negative consequences due to their gender identity or gender transition) and its Diversity Policy (facilitate discrimination-free participation).
UZH has consciously decided to convert single stalls into gender-neutral restrooms. Restrooms with multiple stalls or urinals side-by-side will therefore continue to be marked with the familiar signage for men and women. The UZH's wheelchair-accessible restrooms are also unaffected and will continue to be used by people with disabilities in a gender-neutral manner.

Free sanitary pads and tampons have been available in designated UZH restrooms since 1 January 2025. Scroll down to find lists and maps of restrooms with menstrual product dispensers. In UZH restrooms without menstrual products, look for a purple sticker with a QR code and scan the code to see where a restroom with these products is located.
