Hiring and Managing Staff

The EDI Office addresses matters related to hiring and managing staff as part of its service mandate. It bases its efforts on UZH’s Gender Policy Code of Conduct.
Gender Policy Code of Conduct

In its Diversity Policy, UZH highlights its commitment to fostering “a culture of truly practiced diversity. UZH staff and students treat each other with esteem, respect, and open-mindedness regardless of age, disability, gender, gender identity, origin, religion, sexual orientation, social or occupational position, or language.”
Diversity Policy

In order to fulfill this commitment, individuals in leadership positions must act according to EDI principles and incorporate them into employee appraisals. UZH’s leadership and management principles provide the main guidance for individuals in leadership positions. In addition, UZH provides a form and guidelines specifically for employee appraisals.

HI-FRAME: A Catalogue of Questions for the Professorial Hiring Process

The EDI Office led the innovative HI-FRAME project and sought input from other UZH units. The project lasted from 2021 to 2023, during which time the project team compiled a catalogue of questions for professorial appointment processes. The project’s overarching goal was to develop and pilot a flexible, customized framework that systematically includes candidates’ Open Science activities when they are being assessed and considered for a professorial position. The resulting catalogue of questions is available in English and German.

H.I.T. Program

The High Potential University Leaders Identity & Skills Training Program – Inclusive Leadership in Academia (H.I.T. Program) is a unique leadership initiative for female full and associate professors in Switzerland. The current H.I.T. Program builds upon the 2019–2020 pilot program and the 2021–2024 program, in which UZH and its EDI Office played leading roles. Now the H.I.T. Program is based at UZH’s Center for Higher Education and Science Studies (CHESS).
